How to spruce up your gazebo

How to spruce up your gazebo

If you are fortunate enough to have a gazebo in your back yard, you should appreciate the asset you have! Even if it is getting old and run-down there are strategies to give it a fresh new look, and brighten up your outdoor area. Older gazebos often have historical value, or are more beautiful than modern-day constructions. Place value in the gazebo you have, but spruce it up for extra effect.

Give it a coat of paint

Nothing brightens up a building than a new coat of paint. The new paint will make it look cleaner, newer and more cared for. It could be that your gazebo is structurally fine, and the only disappointing feature about it is the dirty, faded or peeling paint.

Try changing the colour for an exciting change in your yard. You can either choose natural colours so your gazebo blends in with the surrounding grass and trees, or embrace the opposite and choose a vibrant colour that will turn your gazebo into a true feature in your backyard. Bright colours, like pink, orange or even gold, show that you are expressive, confident and daring with your decorating choices.

Surround it with plants

Plants and flowers make a garden a special place, and they enhance your gazebo through smells, textures and colours. Greenery will also help you relax, as you read a book or meditate in your gazebo, and plants will help you create a tranquil sanctuary of your own in your backyard.

Plants can either be used as a border around the gazebo, hang in baskets from the roof, or even be planted to climb up the posts of the gazebo itself. Larger plants might be placed at a distance away from the gazebo, so that their long leaves or branches drape into the outdoor living space.

Create privacy

You can use screens, solid walls or plants to create a space in your gazebo that is comfortable and private. Quite often, families spend a lot of money creating entertainment spaces for large groups – but people like their quiet time too. There is nothing more relaxing than a small and intimate space in the outdoors where you do not need to worry about other people watching what you are doing.

Imagine all of the good times you can have in your gazebo, if it is sheltered from direct sun and also prying eyes. Neighbours will not be able to look over their fences to see what you are doing, and with privacy walls or screens around your gazebo you will be able to retreat there in escape from hustle bustles occurring in the house.

Start decorating

A gazebo can be improved dramatically through decoration. Try hanging some pretty fairy lights from the roof of it. These are perfect at Christmas, but magic is loved at all times of the year. Twinkling lights are less intrusive and more romantic than harsh bright lights, so remember that sometimes less is best.

You can also decorate your gazebo area with outdoor ornaments. Nurseries and landscaping supply stores usually have a good range to choose from, and you can also try garage sales and second hand stores for ideas to make your gazebo a more stylish place to be in.
